Asynchronous BRM Workshops for the Philippines

On the behalf of the U.S. Department of Defense’s Biological Threat Reduction Program (DTRA/BTRP), Sandia National Laboratories/Global Chemical-Biological Security (SNL/GCBS) is offering three (3) 6-week asynchronous workshops on Biorisk Management including Foundational, Laboratory-Level and Management and Leadership tracks.  Participants will work asynchronously at their own pace to complete modules, work on assignments and activities, and answer review questions.  Participants will be required to complete an open book Knowledge Check and a workshop evaluation at the end of each course.  Participants will have three attempts to score at least an 80% on each Knowledge Check to move onto the next Workshop.  Once a Workshop is successfully completed, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion. Descriptions of each workshop are given below.

Workshop #1: Foundational Biorisk Management Workshop Description

Workshop #1 will start on 12 February 2024 and end 22 March 2024. This 6-week asynchronous workshop will introduce five (5) courses on biorisk management (BRM) terminology and fundamental concepts on the following topics: Orientation to Biorisk Management, Biorisk Characterization and Evaluation, Biorisk Mitigation Strategies, Introduction to Dual Use Considerations, and Introduction to Laboratory Biosecurity. Three (3) optional 60-minute Q & A sessions will be held at 9:00 AM PHST (6:00 PM MST) on 16 February 2024, 1 March 2024, and 15 March 2024.

Participants must complete the BRM Foundational Workshop #1 with a grade of 80% to receive a certificate and proceed with Workshop #2 or Workshop #3.

Workshop #2: Laboratory Level-1 Workshop Description

Workshop #2 will start on 25 March 2024 and end 3 May 2024. This 6-week asynchronous workshop will include five (5) courses on Laboratory Level BRM topics including: Hazard & Risk Communication in the Laboratory, Biocontainment Facility Features, Personal Protective Equipment, Decontamination, and Biological Waste Disposal. The three (3) optional 60-minute Q & A sessions will be held at 9:00 AM PHST (6:00 PM MST) on 29 March 2024, 12 April 2024, and 26 April 2024.

Participants complete the Laboratory Level Workshop #2 with a grade of 80% to receive a certificate.

Workshop #3: Management-Leadership Workshop Description

Workshop #3 will start on 6 May 2024 and end 16 June 2024. This 6-week asynchronous workshop will include five (5) courses on management and leadership topics including: Identifying Legal Requirements that Impact Biorisk Management; Introduction to Incident Management and Response; Managing Access to, Control of, and Accountability for Biological Materials; Developing and Maintaining an Inventory Management System; and Writing and Communicating Biorisk Management Policy. The three (3) optional 60-minute Q & A sessions will be held at 9:00 AM PHST (6:00 PM MST) on 10 May 2024, 24 May 2024, and 7 June 2024.

Participants complete the Laboratory Level Workshop #3 with a grade of 80% to receive a certificate.

Registration:

Participants must register by clicking registration above. Once registration has been approved, participants will receive a Letter of Invitation.

Registration will be for the three workshops and the site will open on 9 January 2024. Participants may take one, two, or three workshops, however, to take Workshop #3 the participant must complete Workshop #1.  Once registration has been approved, participants must create an account in the SNL Center for Global Security and Cooperation Learning Portal in Matrix (https://snl.matrixlms.com).  Guidance on creating the user account will be provide after their registration is approved.
